“It’s going to be a long night”, I say to myself as I place my child in bed. The cough was getting worse and I debated on whether to sleep in the chair or in my own bed. The chair won.
As mothers of special needs children, we (sometimes without knowing) are offering up sacrifices to the Lord.
How?
Waking up several times a night, getting up early to feed the family, doing extra loads of laundry for extra large messes, just to name a few. And as these precious souls grow, we suffer more with them.
We must remember that all of these sacrifices are building the kingdom of God. As you perform each motherly duty, offer it up to God. Tell Him how tired you are, tell Him your fears and ask Him for strength.
God has invited you to participate in His work … in His story. We are not in this fight alone and He, alone, can give us His fruit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. Gal. 5:22-23).
We only have to ask. He wants to hear from you … all the good and all the bad.
How beautiful to know that we have been called to a ministry! Our ministry is to our family. You will be surprised at how your life opens doors to conversations about strength, joy and patience!
God is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and Omega. Give Him the beginning and the end of your day … all the big and little sacrifices and know that you are participating in His Work for His Kingdom.
